American Deaf actress Alaqua Cox was born in Wisconsin’s Menominee Reservation. In 2019, she made her screen debut as Maya Lopez in the Disney Plus miniseries Hawkeye. Following that, Alaqua portrayed the title character Echo in the Marvel Comic series Echo on Disney Plus, which was developed by Marion Dayre and published on January 9, 2024.

Born on February 14, 1997, to Bill and Elena Cox, Alaqua Cox came into the world with a distinct viewpoint due to her deafness. Her adventure started in the warm embrace of Keshena, Wisconsin’s Menominee Indian Reservation, where she flourished amid the rich cultural legacy of the Menominee and Mohican people. Alaqua was raised with Will, Jordan, and Katie as one of four siblings.

She played volleyball and girls’ basketball for the Wisconsin School for the Deaf, where she was an active student-athlete from 2014 to 2015. Cox has a prosthetic leg, but she has decided not to disclose to the public the specifics of why she requires it. She perseveres in spite of obstacles and is an inspiration to many.

Career

December 3, 2020, was a turning point in Alaqua Cox’s career when she landed her first acting role as Echo in the Marvel series Hawkeye. Nyle DiMarco, a Deaf activist, and others praised her casting and emphasised the importance of her portrayal.

Cox marvelled at the journey she’d taken in the splendour of the Marvel Hawkeye premiere red carpet, describing her amazement at earning her first-ever acting role and the opportunity to go on to head her programme. Cox expressed her gratitude for the support and her desire to fight for equality and greater inclusion on behalf of the Deaf community.
